General Dentistry - Preventative

We recommend that you come in every 6 months for your regular check and clean, if you are with a private health fund and have general dental we do not charge a gap payment as we encourage our patients to come in regularly to help prevent any issues.

Tooth Decay or cavities are one of the most common dental issues that occur in patients. Tooth decay occurs when bacteria form a film, called plaque, on the surface of teeth. The bacteria produce acids from the sugars in food. The acids eat away at and permanently damage the enamel, or outer layer, of the tooth. The acids then start working on the softer dentin layer beneath the enamel.

This breakdown of the tooth can lead to cavities or holes in your teeth. It can also cause toothaches, including pain when you eat and drink hot, cold, or sweet things.

Gum disease occurs due to build up of plaque and bacteria around the gumline. Common symptoms are gums that are red, swollen, and bleed easily. This is another reason why regular check ups are so important as often times you may have gum disease but are unaware of it or you see no symptoms. Gum disease can lead to bone loss around your teeth which ultimately means teeth can become loose. To treat this we recommend a deep clean followed by regular checkups and maintenance at home with brushing and flossing.
